New cards being used in the camps
During the last visit to squats near Šid, refugees showed our team new “camp cards”.
These are the cards that are given to people who leave the camps to go to the Game (to try to cross a border) and are absent from the camp for more than 24 hours. Their old camp cards are being taken away, and they receive these new ones.
With the new cards, they can only get one meal per day. At the back of the card, there are four columns: date, breakfast, lunch, dinner. The one meal they get for that day is marked on the card.
We do understand that Commissariat is introducing this practice since their capacities are insufficient and that this could be the only measure they can implement in the given circumstances. However, this does not mean that this approach to people in need is an adequate one.
There is a need for widening the existing capacities of reception centers and camps, especially along the borders, and grant all the refugees the same conditions, regardless if they are coming to the camp for the first time, or they had already been there.
