KLIKAKTIV CONDEMNS SERBIA’S ABSTENTION ON UN GAZA RESOLUTION VOTE

Klikaktiv strongly condemns abstention of Serbia’s representatives on UN voting on urgent ceasefire in Gaza.

As a reminder, representatives of 120 states voted in favor, 12 against and 45 abstended, including Serbia. We believe abstention at this moment is in no way an adequate response given that a two thirds majority was needed for the resolution to be adopted.

Since the escalation of the Israeli - Palestinian conflict in the beginning of October, more than 7000 civilians have lost their lives, including more than 3000 children, and more than 2 milion Gaza residents have been cut off from humanitarian aid, water, food and electricity supply. Bombing of hospitals, targeting civilians, media reporters and denying access for humanitarian aid supplies are considered war crimes, by the international humanitarian law. These are the reasons why it is necessary to condemn the conflict and call for cease fire.

Klikaktiv calls upon the government of Serbia, as well as other UN member states, to open humanitarian corridors for Palestinian refugees in order for civilians to be able to flee war zones, to provide them with access to international protection in accordance with the Geneva convention on the status of refugees.
